Our story & philosophy
The AlphaZone School of Yoga motto
“Set your students up for success — by setting yourself up for success.”
Our story
We founded AlphaZone School of Yoga with a very simple vision — to create a place and a space where everyone could learn and benefit from yoga.
The name AlphaZone Yoga was chosen to serve one of these learnings and benefits: entering and living from the Alpha Brain wave state, synonymous with relaxation and creativity — the beginning place of the state of Yoga.
The word Yoga itself means “to Yoke” — to join together, to unify. This is wonderful as a guiding philosophy and even more powerful as a principal of living life fully.
The richness of Hatha, Jnana & Bhakti Yoga, combined and blended AlphaZone style, serves us in getting to know ourselves more, to believe in ourselves more — and to express this through our teachings, building a bridge in consciousness for others to do the same.
Meet your teacher
Michael believes yoga is for everyone — every age, every background, every level of experience.
After 30+ years of experience, Michael's teaching has distilled into something quite unique and quite rare: a practice and teaching that is both deeply informed and genuinely relaxed and heartfelt. There is no pretence, no performance — simply the heart of yoga.
Each class and each teacher training programme weaves together the rigour of Hatha yoga with the intellectual inquiry of Jnana yoga and the heart-centred devotion of Bhakti Yoga. Michael's lifetime of study doesn't announce itself — it reveals itself gently, in the pauses between instruction, in alignment invitations, in stories that arrive at just the right time.
“Yoga is not just about flexibility and strength of the body — it's about flexibility and strength in life, while leading with the heart.”
Meet your teacher
Mary's philosophy is simple and beautiful in its simplicity — “lead with love.”
Mary's teachings provide a framework for all students to get to know themselves better and express this truth through love. Mary was hooked from her very first downdog and is delighted to be sharing her love and expression of yoga to all who step into the AlphaZone School of Yoga teacher training programme.
Mary supports each student during their training — and long after their graduation. Her ability to be clear and cut straight to what matters makes her a force of transformation.
“When you don't know what next to do — lead with love.”

Words from those who have trained with us and gone on to teach.
“AlphaZone School of Yoga is yoga embodied. Their ethos is one of giving, warmth and kindness. Michael, Mary and the other instructors are incredibly talented. Having graduated a year ago I go back as often as I can for masterclasses — just to get that amazing zen they share!”

Class of 2025
“Training with AlphaZone back in 2015 was one of the best decisions I've made for my career. Michael's depth of knowledge is truly priceless. Even years later, I'm still teaching, still loving what I do, and still benefiting from that foundation. The support never stopped.”
